YCC Family Newsletter #14 – June Update ❤️

Hello Families!

1. Registration is open for our free summer day camps for all kids 8-15. We will take weekly field trips to the river, local pools, parks and (again this year) the Calgary Police Interpretive Centre. Camps will run all summer (Monday to Friday) from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The onsite activities will include games in the parks, art, reading and sports! Kids can enjoy the freedom to choose what they want to do, and some structure. There will be an abundance of food, as always. Forms are available at both centres or request by email at  info@youthcentresofcalgary.com.

2. There is an opportunity for all kids of Indigenous families to attend a one-week summer day camp at the Calgary Police Headquarters that will allow them to attend an Indigenous Junior Police Academy, teaching them what it’s like to be a police officer. Here’s the link for registration: https://calgaryjournal.ca/2024/08/07/indigenous-junior-police-program-launched-by-city-police/ July 27-31st. If kids need transportation, we can make that happen. I’ve also attached the flyer with the QR code for registering.

3. We will be having a “how to skateboard and how to be a respectful skateboarder” session at YCC Ogden sometime next week during program hours. Stay tuned!

4. A couple of our older kids are now paid (one hour a day) Junior Youth worker staff. Shout out to Spencer and Yeva for giving back to YCC!

5. Please help us manage our gardens. They are planted, but need a lot of TLC throughout the summer.

6. June 30th Camp Opportunity – Tim Hortons is hosting a day-long camp in Kananaskis. We will have buses leaving YCC Ogden at 7:30 am sharp and from Forest Lawn at 7:45 am sharp, and will return to the centres at about 6:00 pm. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Buses will not wait for late arrivals. If you’d like to register your kids(s), (ages 8-15), please email info@youthcentresofcalgary.com. First come first serve!

Happy June friends!

❤️ Jane
