Pat

Pat began her career as a band director with the Edmonton Public School Board, then moved to the United States where she was active as a piano teacher in California and New York. In 1983, she returned to Alberta and was hired by the Calgary Board of Education where she taught bands and choirs and then moved into a system specialist position before retiring in 2009. Her school groups received many awards at festivals and Pat received personal recognition for her work by being awarded a provincial Excellence in Teaching Award from the Alberta Council on Teaching Standards.

She also received a Citation from the provincial Society for the Visually Impaired for her work in teaching music by Braille to visually impaired students in her classrooms. Pat also provided students from many city band programs with enriched learning opportunities as the director of the Mr. Royal Conservatory Regional Honour Band program for 11 years.

Pat has served as a Board Member of the Alberta Band Association and the Alberta Choral Federation and continues to stay active with piano teaching for Youth Centres of Calgary (YCC), singing with the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus, memberships in ARMTA and Coterie, and continued study of the oboe and English Horn. She also stays busy providing oboe clinics for students involved in school music programs.
