Parent Updates

April Newsletter

Dear Families of YCC Ogden and YCC Forest Lawn,

1. Welcome to the Forest Lawn and Dover families who are new to YCC. Our first school year has been a great success, and we thank you SO much for supporting us as we wind up the year and prepare for summer camps! The kids have been enjoying the food, friendship and activities every day after school.

2. Forest Lawn program hours are 2:30-6:00 Monday to Thursday and 12:00-5:00 on Fridays.

3. Ogden hours are 3:00-6:00 Monday to Thursday and 12:30-5:00 on Fridays. We are closed on statutory holidays. We close both one day a month for staff training and wellness and will let the kids know when we close.

4. Free SUMMER CAMPS will be held at BOTH locations from Monday to Friday during the months of July and August (except statutory holidays). Kids must register. Priority will be given to our current list of registered kids. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY TO RESERVE A SPOT. Registration will open in May, and we will post the details on our website under the parent tab and send email when the forms are ready.

5. Camp activities will include outdoor sports and games, art, music, gardening, computer time and weekly offsite field trips to parks, pools and other cool places. Healthy food will be provided.

6. To clarify/avoid confusion in Forest Lawn and Dover, we are not working with the Forest Lawn Community Center and don’t know what summer and after school programs they may also be offering across the way! The more services that provide a wraparound to the kids in the community the better!

Just a few things to note about attendance, rules and signing in and out!

· YCC is a free special place for the kids and families and if the rules aren’t followed, children may be asked to go home.

· ALL kids, NO MATTER WHAT (age, registered or not), can drop by any time to grab food, or if they need safety. NO QUESTIONS ASKED! We are a free drop-in for everyone for food and a place to be a kid.

· All kids, 8 and up can come to the house for the program if they are registered (once a year, complete the forms) and if they follow the rules of kindness and respect (in the registration form!) We will be meeting with the kids to discuss the rules!

· Parents, if you are picking your kids up after the program (school days or summer), please come on or before closing time! While things sometimes make that impossible, each family is given one “late pick-up”, after which your child may not be allowed to come back for a period. If you would like them to walk home, please let us know by email.

· Kids will often be at the park with supervisors. They are not required to sign out.

· If your child leaves the centre (not with the supervised group), they must sign out and will no longer be under YCC’s care and supervision. Please talk to your youth about whether you will allow them to sign out and leave before the end of the program. Remind them that if they leave, they can only leave once, and that we are not able to supervise or be responsible for kids who sign out.

· Kids who sign out are allowed to sign back in once. If sign out again, they are not allowed to come back to the centre until the next day. This rule will be flexible, depending on the circumstances.

· Conversations about your kids cannot take place in the centre. If you have a question or would like to talk to someone about your child, please call me. My phone number is below. I’d love to talk to you.

· If we call you to come pick up your child, you or one of your trusted adults must be available to do so, or you must have given them permission (see first bullet!) for them to walk home.

It’s such an honor to work with you and your amazing kids! We love YCC and are happy to be in your community!

If I haven’t already met you, I look forward to meeting you!

Xoxo Jane
